My Journey: From Losing a Leg to Finding a New Life
Life takes unexpected turns, and losing my leg was one of the biggest challenges I have ever faced. But with every challenge, there is also an opportunity to rise and find new hope. Let me share my story.
Living with the Wound
For twelve years, we lived with a wound that affected every aspect of our lives. Every day, my husband cleans the wound. My son washes his hands and helps while I cry. I hardly ever went out. Those were very difficult times.
Coming to APC
I came to APC a few years ago because of my bone condition that led to my Bologna amputation.
Finding Hope in Prosthetics
My medical team told me I might not be able to have a prosthesis because of the unique shape of my leg. I’d like to say I’m “curvaceous,” but not in the usual way. But I didn’t give up. I wanted to find someone in Newcastle who could make a leg for me.
Prosthetic Innovations
Because of my condition, we had to create a unique design to make my prosthesis safe and stable. My first prosthesis was a little different from the current one, because designs are constantly changing.
Freedom and New Life
Now, I can put on my waterproof leg and walk on the sand. I couldn’t do this before. I love water, I love swimming. Now, I can swim again!
Embracing Life After Loss
I often tell people, even though I lost a leg, I gained more life.
My story is proof that loss is not an obstacle to achieving happiness and satisfaction in life. With the support of my family, friends, and the help of modern technology, I have learned that I can face any challenge and embrace life to the fullest.
