APC Northmead – Our Facelift is Complete!

After more than 12 years, APC Northmead underwent a full refurbishment in July and August 2017 and we are very excited to share with you our new look. You’ll be amazed at the difference when you next visit APC Northmead – the transformation is incredible.

Meet Our Northmead Team

Ian Robertson

Manager / Senior Prosthetist

Ian joined APC Prosthetics in 2006 as a Senior Prosthetist and moved into a management position soon after. Ian has practiced in all facets of prosthetics and has a special interest in upper limb prosthetic design and function. Ian’s current focus is the growth of the APC brand across all areas of clinical service and the continued evolution of the clinical and technical expertise at APC.

David Howells, OAM

Senior Prosthetist

David is a founding member and director of APC Prosthetics and one of the most highly regarded Prosthetists in Australia, with over 30 years experience. David has been appointed as the Prosthetist to the Paralympic Team since Sydney 2000, and was bestowed with an Order of Australia in 2006 in recognition of his contribution to amputees and the prosthetic profession. He has presented at Australian and International Conferences, and has been lecturing at the UNSW lower extremity course for more than 15 years. As Australia’s most experienced micro-processor knee practitioner, he now manages over 40 patients using this technology, since he fitted the country’s first C-Leg in 1999. His passion is working with the Paralympic athletes and applying these cutting-edge practices to his everyday community clients.

Cathy Howells, OAM

Amputee Physiotherapist

One of Australia’s most knowledgeable and experienced amputee physiotherapists, Cathy has had a special interest in amputee management for over 20 years. She was the physiotherapist in charge of the amputee unit at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital from 1988 until 1994 and has practiced subsequently in the private sector as a consultant Physiotherapist since 1994. She is one of the keynote lecturers in the annual lower extremity prosthetics course at UNSW and has presented numerous scientific papers at both Australian and International Conferences. Cathy has developed and implemented the training program for all the microprocessor knee users at APC Prosthetics. Her passion for optimal outcomes for all amputees has made her integral to the training and preparation of many Australian paralympians.

Cameron Ward

Senior Prosthetist / Orthotist

Cameron graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor Degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 2000. He joined the clinical team at APC Prosthetics in the same year and has been an accredited honorary prosthetist at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals for a number of years. During the 2000 Sydney Paralympics Cameron was actively involved in managing many Medal winning track and field amputees. At the beginning of 2006, Cameron played an integral role as lead prosthetist of the successful Interim trial running at Westmead Hospital. He now specializes in early prosthetic management programs and has a special interest in the field of sports and specialized prostheses. Cameron is particularly interested in increasing his involvement in pediatric prosthetic services.

Nicholas Haw

Senior Prosthetist / Orthotist

Nick has over nine years clinical experience as a Prosthetist, having first taken an interest in Prosthetics in High School in the Northern Central Victorian town of Boort, where he grew up. The opportunity to work with people and provide a service that would make a positive difference in people’s lives, coupled with a career of working with his hands, held great appeal.  In 2004 Nick graduated from La Trobe University in Melbourne with a Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics. Soon thereafter he moved to Sydney, working for Premier Prosthetics where he had the opportunity to attend amputee clinics in metropolitan areas as well as on the Central Coast, Coffs Harbour and Dubbo. He has been exposed to a wide variety of clinical experiences and enjoys the challenges that every new client brings. In March of 2013 he joined the team at APC Prosthetics where he has begun servicing the Amputee Clinics at Hornsby Hospital and the Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney in Ryde. He is a strong believer in finding the best prosthetic solution to match the need of the individual client and, where possible, utilize the latest technology to improve their outcomes.

Joellen McPhan

Senior Prosthetist

Joellen completed her fourth year student placement at APC in 2000. Since graduating, her prosthetic career has extended from Perth to Iceland to Melbourne (including lecturing at LaTrobe University) and in September 2015, joined the APC Sydney team. Joellen has experience across a broad range of prosthetic aspects with particular interest in upper limb rehabilitation. Joellen is an avid South Melbourne/Sydney Swans supporter and is looking forward to another big season in 2017.

Amber Gorman

Prosthetist

Born and brought up in country Victoria, Amber has always had an interest for rehabilitation and helping others from an early age. After graduating in 2013 from La Trobe University in Melbourne, with a Bachelor of Health Sciences with a Master in Clinical Prosthetics & Orthotics, Amber secured a locum position at APC Hunter. After the move to Newcastle, the team embraced Amber and a 6-month position became a full time on-going role. With ever growing responsibilities, Amber’s main work focus is the provision of prosthetics to interim amputees, which she enjoys as she creates a relationship with each client from the beginning of their rehabilitation journey. As well as servicing patients from the Newcastle and Hunter region facilities, she is also involved in clinics on the Central Coast, Wingham and Tamworth areas. She is also an active AOPA member. Amber looks forwards to furthering her technical knowledge and clinical experiences as part of the APC team.

Lina Ng

Prosthetist

Lina grew up in the sunny island of Singapore before moving to Australia to complete a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Melbourne. She then graduated with a Master’s degree of Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics from La Trobe University in 2012. Lina joined the dynamic and collaborative team at APC Northmead in March 2017, and has been attending the Amputee Clinics at Westmead Hospital and Mt Druitt Hospital. Lina strongly believes in empowering individuals to achieve their goals, and enjoys working with clients and their rehabilitation teams to meet their prosthetic needs. She looks forward to expanding her clinical experience and building relationships with new and existing clients.

Heath Mitchell

Prosthetist

Heath grew up in Wangaratta, country Victoria, before moving to Melbourne to study Prosthetics and Orthotics. He graduated at the end of 2013 with a Bachelor of Health Science and Masters in Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics. Heath moved to Sydney in March 2014, where he helped serve the Central and South-Eastern Sydney region for their Prosthetic needs. He then joined the APC team at Northmead in April 2016, before taking a 2 year sabbatical, where he worked at an outpatient amputee rehab centre in Crystal Palace, London. Through his various roles Heath has gained a broad range of experiences where he specialises in Microprocessor controlled knees, Osseointegration and complex prosthetic management. Heath returned home to APC in August 2019 and currently attends Westmead Amputee Clinic in the role of transfemoral specialist. Heath loves the challenge of being able to help problem solve and brainstorm ideas to overcome prosthetic problems in the ever changing prosthetic landscape.

Sarah McConnell

Prosthetist

Sarah grew up in the Yarra Valley in Victoria before moving to Melbourne to study Prosthetics and Orthotics. Sarah graduated at the end of 2016 from La Trobe University, Melbourne with a Bachelor of Health Science and Masters in Prosthetics and Orthotics. She then completed her graduate year working as an orthotist/prosthetist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, gaining knowledge and experience in both acute and rehabilitation clinical settings. Sarah joined the APC Prosthetics team in January 2018 and is looking forward to building her knowledge and skills and working to assist clients to achieve their goals no matter how big or small!

Phoebe Coates

Prosthetist

Phoebe originates from Kilmore in North Central Victoria. Having grown up with classmates who had prostheses, Phoebe’s interest for prosthetics began at an early age. Phoebe graduated from La Trobe University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Health Science and Masters of Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics. Phoebe’s interests quickly became a passion when she moved to Sydney in 2018 to join the Prosthetics Technical Team at APC Northmead, where she she immersed herself in all aspects of prosthetic fabrication. Phoebe transitioned into APC Northmead’s Clinical Team in 2019 and attends the Westmead Amputee Clinic.

Sam Palazzolo

Prosthetist

Since graduating from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics, Sam practised as a dual Clinician in Geelong, Victoria and Hobart, Tasmania. Sam then moved to Sheffield, United Kingdom to further his career, where he was later promoted to Clinical and Contract Manager at a public hospital in London working with complex trauma patients. Moving back to Australia, Sam joins the Northmead Clinic to pursue his passion in Prosthetics.

Brian Murphy

Technical Services Manager

Brian has over 30 years’ experience working in Prosthetics and Orthotics. Brian started his career working in early prosthetic management in the rehabilitation unit at Tamworth Hospital before joining APC Hunter where he has been working for over 15 years before transferring to APC Northmead. Brian specialises in testing lay ups and laminations with new composite materials for definitive prosthetics, and he is responsible for supervising the Technical Staff and maintaining WHS, ensuring quality control and a steady work flow.

David Bradley

Prosthetic Technician

David concluded his training as an Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician in 1995 in Ireland before moving to Australia in 2000 where he joined APC Prosthetics as the leading Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician.

Dennis Glasemann

Prosthetic Technician

Dennis began working as a prosthetic technician in Germany in 2001 and moved to Australia to work with APC in 2012. He really enjoys being part of the team that is able to “help people achieve their goals in life”, through using his manual skills.

Samer Zakhour

Prosthetic Technician

Samer joined the team at APC in late 2017, having worked in Syria as a prosthetic technician for more than 9 years.

Suresh Punnadi

Prosthetic Technician

Suresh joined APC in November 2018 with experience in designing and manufacturing Orthopaedic implants and instruments.

Mohsen Yazdani

Prosthetic Technician

Born and raised in Iran, Mohsen worked at an Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinic building his skills in P&O before moving to Australia. where he now joins APC as a Prosthetic Technician.

Ruben

Prosthetic Technician

Ruben completed his apprenticeship as an Orthopaedic Technician in Germany and travelled the world before settling in Australia to continue his profession as a Prosthetic Technician.

Rosalina Effendy

Administration Manager

Rosalina joined the APC team in July 2018 as an Administration Manager and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of administrative support and customer service across all APC Clinics.

Reception & Administration Assistant

Jane has been with APC Prosthetics since 2000. Jane assists with Reception and Administrative duties.

Rhonda started with APC Prosthetics 2011. Rhonda assists with Reception and Clerical duties.

Michelle has been with APC Prosthetics since 2003. Michelle assists with Reception and Administrative duties.

Julie Dirube

Healthcare Administration Assistant

Julie has joined us at APC Northmead as a specialist NDIS Support Co-Ordinator to assist with all NDIS enquires. Julie’s role is to provide support and information to assist with the transition into the new NDIS systems for our clients who are participants or are becoming participants of the NDIS.

Natalie Newsome

Reception & Administration Assistant

Natalie joined APC Northmead in August 2018. Natalie assists with Reception and Administrative duties.
